Masala Bread Toast (Indian Style)

Ingredients:

  • 4 bread slices (white or brown)
  • 1 medium onion (finely chopped)
  • 1 small tomato (finely chopped)
  • 1 green chili (finely chopped) – optional
  • ¼ tsp turmeric powder
  • ½ tsp red chili powder (adjust to taste)
  • Salt – to taste
  • 1–2 tbsp oil or butter
  • 1–2 tbsp fresh coriander leaves (chopped)
  • Optional: ¼ tsp garam masala or chat masala for extra flavor

Method:

  1. Chop onion, tomato, and green chili.
  2. Heat oil in a pan, saute veggies with turmeric and salt.
  3. Toast bread slices and top them with the masala.
  4. Optional: Add cheese on top and toast again till melted.

Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the masala mixture

  1. Heat oil or butter in a pan on medium heat.
  2. Add chopped onion and green chili. Sauté for 2–3 minutes till onions turn soft and lightly golden.
  3. Add chopped tomatoes and cook until soft and mushy (about 2–3 minutes).
  4. Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for another 1–2 minutes until everything blends into a masala.
  5. Turn off the flame and add chopped coriander leaves. Mix and set aside.

Step 2: Toast the bread

  1. Option 2: Pan-toast with masala
  2. Take a spoonful of masala and spread it directly on one side of the bread slice.
  3. Heat a little oil or butter on a tawa.
  4. Place the bread masala-side-up and toast until the bottom turns golden.
  5. Optional: Flip carefully and toast the masala side for a few seconds (for extra crispness).

Tips:

  • You can add grated cheese on top for a cheesy masala toast.
  • Add finely chopped capsicum, grated carrot, or corn to the masala for more nutrition.
  • Use multigrain or brown bread for a healthier twist.
  • To make it kid-friendly, skip the green chili and reduce red chili powder.

Serve hot with:

  • Green chutney
  • Tomato ketchup
  • Masala chai or filter coffee
