Ingredients:
- 4 bread slices (white or brown)
- 1 medium onion (finely chopped)
- 1 small tomato (finely chopped)
- 1 green chili (finely chopped) – optional
- ¼ tsp turmeric powder
- ½ tsp red chili powder (adjust to taste)
- Salt – to taste
- 1–2 tbsp oil or butter
- 1–2 tbsp fresh coriander leaves (chopped)
- Optional: ¼ tsp garam masala or chat masala for extra flavor
Method:
- Chop onion, tomato, and green chili.
- Heat oil in a pan, saute veggies with turmeric and salt.
- Toast bread slices and top them with the masala.
- Optional: Add cheese on top and toast again till melted.
Instructions:
Step 1: Prepare the masala mixture
- Heat oil or butter in a pan on medium heat.
- Add chopped onion and green chili. Sauté for 2–3 minutes till onions turn soft and lightly golden.
- Add chopped tomatoes and cook until soft and mushy (about 2–3 minutes).
- Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for another 1–2 minutes until everything blends into a masala.
- Turn off the flame and add chopped coriander leaves. Mix and set aside.
Step 2: Toast the bread
- Option 2: Pan-toast with masala
- Take a spoonful of masala and spread it directly on one side of the bread slice.
- Heat a little oil or butter on a tawa.
- Place the bread masala-side-up and toast until the bottom turns golden.
- Optional: Flip carefully and toast the masala side for a few seconds (for extra crispness).
Tips:
- You can add grated cheese on top for a cheesy masala toast.
- Add finely chopped capsicum, grated carrot, or corn to the masala for more nutrition.
- Use multigrain or brown bread for a healthier twist.
- To make it kid-friendly, skip the green chili and reduce red chili powder.
